Day Two: Planning Some Inspiration
Boy was I productive today! I woke at 8, had a shower.
The shower. The single worst shower I have ever used in my life. I’m hesitant to say anything bad against the centre, because they’re doing some great things for the Perth writing scene, but this shower is awful. For a start, the taps are down really low, so I almost have to get on my knees to turn it on. Then the actual spray is circular, not straight down, so I’m standing in the middle and the water is around me like a curtain and I’m not even getting wet! So I have to rotate on the spot, walk in circles under the wide spray to try to get remotely close. I’m a stander in the shower. I just stand and let the water work it’s magic. I’m not a fan of having to do exercise in the shower by constantly having to chase the weak array of droplets around.
But aside from the shower, my morning was relatively nice. I ate a HUGE breakfast, then I wandered around the property and took photos of everything. James should (hopefully) be bringing me my camera cable on Wednesday, so I might be able to put some photos of the centre up.
After my walk I settled in for a huge day of writing, and I must admit that I was amazingly productive. For the first time ever, I started with a plan! I decided what my word goal would be (minimum of 3000, to get me to 12000 words total). Then I wrote keywords about what I was going to write those 3000 words on, and allotted the key words a number of words (ie. I want to write about the relationship between Pat and Terry, so I allotted it 1000 words of the 3000 word goal). Then I started writing! Having a goal was fantastic, and having a vague idea of the minimum words I wanted a section to go for was brilliant as well. I never went under the set word limit, but I frequently went over, which is excellent. So in the end, yesterday I wrote 3800 words, bringing me to 13000 words total. I am very happy about that! I’m hoping to get to 18000 words by the end of Wednesday (well, realistically I’m hoping to get to 16000, but 18000 is my next big plot point, so I’m keen to get there). The problem, though, is that I also want to attend the writer’s groups that happen here, so I end up losing an hour or so of my day doing that. But so long as I get my minimum of 3000 words out, I’ll be happy.
Around 2, my mum and an old family friend of ours sprung a surprise visit on me. I showed them around, gave them coffee, chatted for about an hour. Mum was like me; the house either wasn’t as old as she expected, or wasn’t as manor-esque as she expected. At 4, there was a writer’s meeting for some under 13’s. I was blown away by these kids. Their imaginations were amazing, and they were extremely bright. Most of the group were from the one family, but they were all very creative and very quick learners. Today we had a visiting author come in, but I might get the chance to work with them more closely next week.
And my evening was made up of a general meeting, where we had wine and cheese after for a ‘welcome’-like thing for me. Then I went online and played iSketch against James all night. I’m such a nerd… (oh, and I got extremely excited to discover Scrubs on TV at about 12:30am, so I didn’t get to bed before 1am).
Animal sighting for the day: two bobtails slithered past my window on an afternoon stroll. I was excited because you don’t often see bobtails hanging around together; they usually just lie by themselves on the road and things like that.

Yo yo! That sounds so cool…. you sound really grown up! it is scary. YAY for you, I say. Yay for you.
Shall I tell you about my animal sighting for yesterday? One of my frogs was sitting on a lillypad in a large pot of water. He’s so cool. He likes me. And I like him. One day we will marry.

Animal sightings are thrilling. I chased the bobtail again today, but he was on his lonesome. They’re fast little bastards, too! I thought I could sneak up on him with my camera, but no sirree, not this bobtail! He was off before I could even turn the stupid camera on!

Oh, it sounds like you’re having a wonderful time. And 3800 words? That’s HUGE!
I’ve been watching Scrubs too! So tempted to go out and buy the DVD as an “I’ve finished uni” present for myself.
Have fun!

Yes, do go buy Scrubs! I have the first two seasons and they are BRILLIANT and completely rewatchable. They’re only $30 at JBs or something.
And, just to let you know, I’ve written over 10 000 words since I’ve been here. That’s more than I’ve written all semester, and I’ve managed to do it in three days!
