Just Wasting Time
There are some birds going nuts outside my window. I think it’s because it’s been sprinkling a little bit today; not much rain, but just enough to make me worried about slipping over randomly. And yes, that is something I need to be legitimately concerned about. I bought these amazing shoes in Malaysia , but they had absolutely no grip on the bottoms. So, I was walking back to work after my lunch break about a week ago and suddenly WHOOSH! down I went. It wasn’t raining, I wasn’t drunk, I just fell over for no reason whatsoever. A scary-looking youth yelled out ‘Are you okay?’. I just mumbled ‘I’m fine,’ and staggered to my feet again and scurried into my office. Alas, I had badly grazed my knee. And then, that evening, I was walking home with about six bags of shopping and I was thinking ‘don’t slip over, don’t slip over.’ So, of course, Murphy’s Law being what it is, WHOOSH! down I went again!! This time nobody called out to see if I was okay (even though there was a man sitting in his car right next to me, watching me crawl around on the ground gather up all my shopping as tears of bitter humiliation stung my eyes). So I’ve retired those shoes for the time being, my knee is still healing and is still very sore and tender, and I now walk around London looking like a horse on muddy ground. I haven’t fallen over again. Yet.
I’ve blogged a lot this week, so I don’t really have much to say. I’m just trying to kill time. Mike, James and I are probably going to see ‘The Odyssey’ tomorrow, a critically acclaimed version of the Homer classic. Only £10! Oh, and this Saturday is James’ birthday, and I’ve got him the BEST birthday present ever, but he has to wait about three weeks for it to arrive. We’re probably going to the football on Saturday to see Fulham play Portsmouth, assuming we can get tickets. Oh, and I have an interview for next week to take on a different role here at the National Childbirth Trust (hopefully a role that will a bit more challenging than the reception job), but I’m not guaranteed to get that. I’ve had my contract extended for another week at the moment, but it might end up being more. We’ll see!
I really don’t have much to say right now. It’s just that I have nobody else to talk to, so I thought I’d talk to cyberspace. Reception can be a lonely, lonely place, and if the phones aren’t ringing and all my jobs have been done, there’s nothing else for me to do but stare into space. I tried to do some writing, but it’s hard to get into the space when I’m having to stop every few seconds to work (isn’t it terrible? Having to work at work??). There’s only an hour left to go, so I might spend that time rearranging my pens. Or painting my nails.
